Aims
The aims of the TSJ Advisors scheme are twofold: firstly it is to help students become better writers through feedback from journalists and, secondly, it is to introduce students (who may wish to become journalists) to journalists so they feel that they have someone that they can email if they have any questions about the industry.
Journalists are generally quite busy and that's why each Advisor would edit a maximum of one article a month. If they give a specific topic that they would prefer to edit then we'll try and arrange that (but it obviously depends on the writers that month).
Define 'edit'
Here, we define editing to be the same that the TSJ editorial team currently do. First, the editorial team will go through the article and sort out any major grammar points. We would then pass it on, where journalists would go through the article and make changes they feel would add to the piece. This would all be done with any changes tracked so that the writer can see the changes. We often will prefer to highlight certain phrases etc. and suggest an alternative through a comment rather than making a change ourselves and we'll be asking for the journalists to do the same.
So who are the advisors?
There are currently 4 TSJ advisors and you can read more about each one on this page. We'll be adding one journalist to this page every day until Friday so do come back and see who they are.
