This page will be updated with more information about various opportunities available to those interested in becoming actively involved in The Student Journals. TSJ has high aspirations and it will be a great addition to your CV, especially if you are looking to a career in journalism.
Initially, TSJ is currently looking for people to fill various roles:
  • Film Critics - We're getting emails everyday inviting us to premieres and film screenings. The only problem is that we don't have enough film critics to be covering everything so do get in touch if you want to review films, watching them before they're out in the cinema.
  • Social Media editor - We're looking for a social media editor to look after our Facebook, Twitter & Tumblr pages and head our social media campaigns.
  • Cartoonist - Fancy yourself as the next David Low or Kevin Kallaugher?
  • Commentator - Be one of our regular writers (as part of this role, you will be entitled Commentator on your profile page and have to write at least once every other week).
  • Content Uploader - In this role, you would be one of the members who puts up articles on the website. If you're looking to get into journalism, this role is great because it adds to your versatility and we'll teach you how to use a new content management system (CMS). However, you do need to know the basics of how to use a good photo-editing software and have a knack for choosing a good image.
  • Live blogger - TSJ are now covering and live-blogging at an increasing number of (student) events and we need more live bloggers to get involved to help. You will have demonstrated in past experiences fantastic social media skills and the ability to convey academic discourse in an interesting manner.
  • Head of Marketing - Thus far, TSJ has expanded slowly but now we need to start letting all students know that this platform exists. You will lead a team in creating and leading marketing strategies to achieve this aim. You would also be responsible for ensuring that The Student Journals becomes a widely recognised name and would control TSJ's social media outlets as part of your role, alongside the social media editor).
  • Education Reporter - Reporting on the latest on news affecting all students. As a reporter, you would be responsible for writing at least one article a week.
  • Graphic Designer - This role entains creating fantastic designs to accompany our awareness campaigns and a few other bits and bobs around the website.
  • Magazine Designer - We are thinking about releasing a monthly magazine - in the form of an online pdf - and you would need to create a beautiful template and then add the necessary articles every month.
  • Podcast Presenter - Our podcasts are now on iTunes and we want students filling and updating it with new podcasts. This would be yourself (or more if you prefer) talking about something political, social, economic or anything that you believe is an important, or interesting topic. Alternatively, you could just be talking about a film or theatre performance that you have just watched.

If you are interested in any of these roles, please contact siraj.datoo[at]thestudentjournals.co.uk and ali.gokal[at]thestudentjournals.co.uk for more information with the subject 'TSJ Position'.
